How to safely remove portable hard drive?

I'm able to access my Western Digital Passport Portable Hard Drive without any problem here in Windows Vista but the problem is, it's not showing up on the system tray so I don't know if should just pull out the USB cord or what? Thanks.
ya i already tried right clicking it, but it doesn't have that option

dont worre just plug it off from PC ...
your portable hard drive never got damaged ...
safely remove option is for that time you portable hard drive working but you r not aware ....

now if you want to safely remove your portable hard drive
follow this ...[method with out reboot]
right click on my computer open 'Properties'
then click TAB "Hardware"
then open "Device manager"
last option "universal serial bus controller"
click it
it shows all USB attachment ....
find your portable hard drive then right click on it "uninstall"

I have an archos Jukebox and when I plug it into my computer the "unplug hardware" appears in the bottom right corner, but when I go to "My Computer" there is no extra drive detected. What do I do?

click on "my computer" or whatever again. my pc doesn't recognize my camera when i connect it, when i try to detect it it's not there. when i try to detect it a 2nd time, it's there.

Playing Media from a Portable Hard drive on an Xbox 360?

Im looking at getting a portable hard drive so i can back up all my media files and was looking at may be getting an HDD Media Player so i could view it on my TV but was wondering if could plug the drive into my xbox and use that to view the files. If not what HDD media player is the best out there. Seagate just came out with a new one and was looking at the one because they have Mac compatible hard drives and I have a Macbook Pro.

most hardrive are not supported for the xbox, i would go for the media player or stream the media files from my computer to the xbox

No. You can only transfer media (music, pictures, etc.) from your PC to 360. Games saves, demos, gamerpics, and any other game data cannot be saved or transferred via a flash or external drive. You can use a flash drive to transfer a background or wallpaper from your PC and set it as your 360 background, but it's not a whole theme.
