best external hard drive quality image

I'm trying to move my files to an external hard drive so that I can reformat my laptop? Do I risk anything by compressing them to fit on the external hard drive? What about music and video files? Will they lose their quality at all?
Answer
HI
I'M RAMIZ
you want to format your computer to have better system performance
you can put all your files on d: for example
and format only the system drive normaly it's C:
but if you need an fdisk because you have viruses you need to back up
and it's not recomended to compress your files but you can alwayes use a DVD writer to take a backup of your files each dvd contain from 4.7 to 7 giga
so backup your files to dvds and hard drive
if you still need space buy more dvd and this the best way
each dvd cost about 1 usd
a new hard drive with 1024 giga = i tira cost about 130 usd

What is the best brand name for external hard drives?
Slimp
I'm looking to get a 1TB external hard drive for Christmas. The only thing that's important is that it's going to be reliable and I won't have to worry about drive failure or data loss for a few years at least. What is the best brand and/or model to get? I was looking at a Verbatim one for $79 but I also seen an IOmega one for the same price. I never heard of IOmega before and I'm thinking it's a matter of the brand name of the drive itself that defines the quality.
Answer
You need to do some better research. Iomega have been making computer storage devices for 30 years. Their zip, jaz and ditto drives were famous.
