I have a Western Digital 1TB portable hard drive and when I plug it into my computer (Running Ubuntu Linux 10.10) nothing happens. Is there a way to make the computer recognize it?

Answer
Run "lsusb" on the terminal to see if it detects the drive.
Most of the time it should be recognized and an icon will pop up on the desktop.

sudo fdisk -l
to see if the drive is detected.

mount
to see if it was mounted
