Why can't I see my Western Digitial Hard Drive?

I have a Western Digital Passport portable HD, 250 GB. When I plug it into my computer, it installs the plug and play drivers nicely, and I can SEE the WD icon in my device manager. However, I can't see the drive in windows explorer, and it really doesn't sound like my drive is spinning up. Any help?

Hi ! Right click on my computer icon and select manage .... There, select Disk management ... There you will find your hard drive ... If its new, you can simply format it and it will get detected now on ... Else you can try changing drive letter to assign it one ...

My Portable Hard drive gets heated too often. Is it Normal? What can I do to reduce the temperature?

I bought a WD My Passport 1TB Hard disk, I tried to encrypt the drive with BitLocker. After 2 hours, the drive become too hot to handle and it smells ugly (electronically). Why is this happening? Is this because of the smaller size of this portable drive? How could I reduce the heat? Can I rely on this WD My Passport? Pls help me out...

hard driver cooler, or get exhaust internal fan, or upgrade to a bigger drive
