The external hard drive is a seagate 750gb firewire one. It is about 30gb full.

For most hard drives the failure rate is about 5% but start to go up depending on age and use, which is the same case for any piece of hardware that has moving parts.

Can someone recommend what I should uninstall to get some of my hard drive space back?

Q. I just installed Adobe CS4 Master Collection (w/o the video programs) on my 1.2 G4 iBook (1.25ram). I now only have 5.47GB left uGh. Was wondering what pre-installed (Leopard OS X 10.5) stuff I should get rid of? Or can I install Adobe CS4 on an external hard drive (Firewire connection) and run it from there?

Any suggestions?

I'm running photoshop CS3 Extended through a external hard drive hooked up through a USB so you could most likely run it through your firewire port if you wanted to do it that way.

You would just have to uninstall it then reinstall it with the program files on the external hd.

Alright here is my question. I film with mini dv tape cameras and need to upload video via firewire however my laptop does not have one. I want to know that if i buy an external hard drive with a firewire port and just plug it into my computer could i get the footage or would it not be compatible?

If you have a hard drive with firewire, you cannot plug it into your computer as you say you don't have a firewire port. Also buying an external hard drive does not help you get the video off the camera. You should search around for USB videi capture devices with A/V output and connect your camcorder via A/V to it.

I want to buy a 1 tb external hard drive. But when i look for one i see that there are several descriptions for them. I see some that say that they are firewire external,usb external, usb ethernet, usb firewire. Can anyone explain what all this is and what the difference is? Which one is better and has faster transfer speed? Which one do you recommend under 120$ ?

usb, firewire, esata, and ethernet are all ways of connecting your hard drive to your computer. here is the order of speed from slowest to fastest

usb
firewire
ethernet
esata

make sure you have the right ports on your computer to use it. you most likely have usb and ethernet, but esata and firewire are less common.
