rigo090294

What is the inside of the HDD like?
Is there a way of opening this HDD?

Answer
If you open it two things will happen. !: Your warranty will be void. 2: You will ruin the hard drive because contamination will enter the drive. Here's a picture of what's inside.

Can a Portable Hard Drive act as a Hard Drive?

J

Okay, here's the situation. I have two laptops, but both of them have broken hard drives. So I was wondering if I went out and bought a portable hard drive from Wal-Mart if there was some way that portable hard drive would kick in and act as the main hard drive if there isn't one already in there or if these so called portable hard drives were nothing more then larger flash drives?

Answer
Yes, it will. You will have to go into system BIOS first, and select the boot order to boot from USB. From there, you will need to Install the OS on that hard drive, and all of the drivers from that particular laptop. You can find the drivers online such as if it's an HP you can visit the HP website, and click on the drivers section. Hope this helps!

Help with portable hard drive?

Mark J.

I have a 500GB hp portable hard drive "HP Personal Media Drive"
I used it on a Mac once and I could only get files off of it and I couldn't save anything to it. When I took it back to my PC it wouldn't work at all.

"USB Device Not Recognized"

Or whatever. So do i need to like re-format it or something now? That would suck because it has some home videos that i don't have backed up anywhere else. Any ideas?

Answer
The hard drive has been set to Mac format and need to be redone in windows format
You could try refitting it to the mac to get your videos off of it

any help would be appreciated on this.

I got a new hp computer and it came with a portable hard drive, I transfered some files from my old laptop to the portable drive. the problem is now, no computer can detect the usb hard drive, the hard drive is still under warranty. but I don't want to send the hard drive back to hp with my info on it, but if I break it open it won't be under warranty anymore.

when i plug the hard drive in to my laptop and hp, it says usb device not recognize, or has malfunctioned. I can never get access to it, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer
My Computer>right-click Manage>Device Manager.

Uninstall all USB controllers. Reboot. It should recognize it then.

can you put a portable hard drive on your netbook to have more space?

im getting an hp mini 1035 and i was thinking because it has such little space that, if i can get a portable hard drive and store music on there from my old computer and play it on he netbook?
also will the portable hard drive make the netbook slower?

Answer
Yeah, of course you can get a external hard drive for your netbook! It's a wise choice, the hard drive will be connected through the USB port on your netbook, it will not decrease the speed of your computer, even if so, only a little.
