Can I connect a WD my passport 250g portable hard drive to a TV?

Roark

I'd like to watch my movies on the TV.

Answer
Sure you can... no problem.

Take a look at the WD TV by Western Digital.

http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=572

You can buy one here at NewEgg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136325&Tpk=WD%20TV

This allows you to hook up your hard drive to your TV and play whatever is on the drive. It plays in HD through the HDMI port, or standard definition TV on the composite RCA outputs.

You can hook up two drives at one time, too. music, photos, videos... you name it.

If you don't have HDMI or composite inputs on your TV, then you would need an RF modulator to change the signal to an 'antenna' signal that the TV can recognize.

Good luck!

Did the passport (portable hard drive) actually work on my laptop?

shygirl202

So i recently bought a portable hard drive, my passport. i removed all the information from my laptop and transferred it to the passport. then i cleared my laptop with the disk that came with it when i first bought it, and started it fresh with no information that wasn't essential for it to work. anyways the first day after i cleared it, my laptop was working very well, and going pretty fast. but then it started to get slow and my audio is horrible now. it makes loud annoying sounds, so im guessing its pretty much ruined. my question is that i want to know if the passport i bought to create space on my laptop actually was worth it. or is my laptop in its worst conditions ever because it is simply old? my laptop is a toshiba brand and is 3 years old. i greatly appreciate your advice.

Answer
The pasport is an additional hard drive, its just an external hard drive. You might have multiple hard drives on a desktop computer, but generally laptops only have one internal hard drive. Did you connect the passport to your laptop after re-installing or using the recovery CD to determine if you operating system recognizes what is written on the passport?

Three to five years is the life expectancy of a laptop. Sad but true. I have four legacy laptops that still perform well, but I have adjusted to the quicker pace of my one laptop and two netbooks.

What you may be experiencing is a failing hard drive. It may not be spinning at a consistent speed that meets the drive manufacturer's specifications. Are you a heavy computer user?

There is software available to check the health of your hard drive. Some is freeware and other software you can purchase third party. If you have a local computer shop that you frequent they should be able to test the hard drive.

The passport is a nice additional piece of equipment to have. I have one for each laptop and netbook for backup of personal files.

160 GB Western Digital Passport Portable Hard Drive??

Step into

I just bought one and installed it. In "My Computer" where you can click on your drives to see their info, it says the portable hard drive only has 149 GB capacity, not 160. Is this normal? I just bought it and all that is on there so far is my bookmarks (hardly 11 G worth.) Thanks

Answer
its because the drive has information on it that it needs to process... they also have volume's and auto backup options that take up room on them

Portable Hard-Drive...?

Well, i need to know where i can get a portable hard drive under 200 bucks and a pretty big size. At least a 120 gig. so you have have a good brand name is mind that would be great, because I've heard of nightmares because they lost all their stuff in the hard-drive.

Thanks,

gomez.

Answer
There are a few that have pretty good capacities and are under $200. I think it's the western digital passport and HP has one too. Go to tigerdirect or newegg.

any help is appreciated! thanks!

Answer
Here at DISH Network, you have to activate your account so when a USB external hard drive is plugged in, it will prompt to format the drive. I would call your provider to see if they require the same activation.

Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB Portable Hard Drive?

Bubba Chil

I am planning on buying the Western Digital My Passport Essential 500GB Portable Hard Drive, but am confused about somethings. I want to know if you can just plug it in and begin to drag and drop stuff from my laptop on to this external hard drive. I have seen that you can, but some people say you have to do something about WD Smartware. Any ideas?

Answer
I have wd also. Just plug it in and begin to drag and drop. There's nothing else to do.

How much space does a 1tb hard drive have after Windows format?

Billy

looking at getting the new 1tb western digital passport portable hard drive. Just wanted to know what i would really be getting. How much space in GB will i actually get, i am going to assume somthing like 870gb-930gb but does anyone have an exact number?

and no the operating system will not go on it, just files and programs and stuff

also this will be in ntfs format, unless when windows 7 comes out they have somthing better

Answer
see hard disk is secondary memory
so 1kb=1000bytes
1gb=1000*1000*1000 bytes

os measure capacity interms of primary memory
where 1 gb=1024*1024*1024 bytes

so exact space is
(your hard drive space which is 1000GB)/primary memory(1gb)
1000*1000*1000*1000/1024*1024*1024

=931.322GB

its same for all os
this is capacity of standard hard drive
but hard drive manufactures state they can't
exactly make 1 tb hard drive
so thats approx disk capacity they give
so according to that all 1Tb drives have near about 930 GB space
