I am looking for a nice, portable, slim laptop or netbook with windows 8. The main features I want is good battery life, portable and would be able to have an external Blu Ray player to it. I will use it as a computer for school and a way to watch my blu rays anywhere. What would be the best laptop for that?

Appears to be a gaming laptop of some sort. My guess is a very expensive Dell as they still use the low end 10/100 ethernet even in some of their more expensive systems.

Game Booster
used to be freeware and I think now is trialware. It shuts unused processes.
You can uninstall software you won't use, and get a startup manager software to not start what you don't need. Defrag the HDD, add CCleaner software maybe.

Laptop gaming never reaches the level of tower PCs, and Lenovo Y580 has GTX 660M which is a little better and was selling it cheaper than your Dell [as I guess], but, it will do what it does. Your gaming should be a little better than NVIDIA GeForce GTS 450, and below NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.
