My hard drive isn't registering with my computer?

I have a 3TB mybook western digital external hard drive and my Mac can't see it. At all. Its normally formatted for windows and I have a plug in downloaded to my mac where I can read and write on it (I dont remember the name of it). It was working fine and one day just decided not to. It wasn't dropped and no water damage. Any ideas?

if formatted under windows format it won't see it. partition it and reformat each partition with basic windows format

For alot of music storage on a laptop whats recomended?

Im needing a Mac Book Pro for djing, music storage and production so will need a hefty program on it like Serato, whats recommended for Processor Speed and Hard drive capacity??
