portable hard drives for ipad image

We are looking at an iMac/Apple because the touch screen possibility for our special needs child may be very useful in her sensory skill development. With the iMac, if we bring in programs, as we did on the PC, we would want to download them onto an external drive and free up the computer's drive. Therefore, how useful is an external/portable hard drive to an iMac/Apple?
Answer
Hello - I also have a child with special needs. She has severe cerebral palsy.
You are talking about the Apple iPad, correct? I have talked to some therapists at her school and they are excited about the possibilities of using the iPad for special needs people who can communicate through a touch screen. Before the iPad, such a device cost thousands of dollars to buy.
You need to contact a therapist about getting and setting up an iPad for this purpose. It will require software applications to be written for the disabled, but those will come in time, if not already.
Don't worry about the size of the applications. The iPad will be plenty big enough to hold whatever applications are created for this purpose. Your home computer will sync with the iPad through Apple's free iTunes software, and keep a backup of the data and apps on your iPad.

Can I start a new iTunes library on a new PC with what I have on my iPad?
Daniel
Because I was selling my laptop, I deleted everything from the hard drive including my iTunes library. Fortunatley I have everything on my iPad. How do I go about setting up a new library on my new PC with the songs, videos, etc that I have on my iPad?
Answer
You can try iPad to PC Transfer. It is a fast, easy-to-use, key feature:
1. Transfer music, movie, photo, ePub, pdf, audiobook, Podcast and TV Show among iPad, computer and iTunes.
2. Copy your iPad songs, videos, photos, TV Shows and podcasts from iPad to iTunes library directly.
3. Add your favorite songs and videos to your iPad without overwriting the original files. Easier than iTunes.
4. Manage iPad/iPod/iPhone as portable hard disk
