What is the difference between external hard drive and portable external hard drive. I find portable a bit costlier. whats the main difference and what are the advantages?

As far as I know they are exactly the same thing. The only thing would be the portable's are a little more compact in size so if you want to use it while traveling it will take up less space. Most of the external hard drives that I have seen on the market today are not really that big anyway.

The other difference you will see is some of them require a separate power cord to power them as they have a built in fan to keep them cool, while the portable devices are usually just powered through the usb cable connector.
