I have a Western Digital 1TB portable hard drive and when I plug it into my computer (Running Ubuntu Linux 10.10) nothing happens. Is there a way to make the computer recognize it?
Answer
I have never used this OS but if it has a add new hardware folder try there or if it has device manager you may want to check there the drive should be listed under usb devices as a mass storage device. you may need to get drivers for it.

Answer
Make sure you have the drivers needed for it to run. Check the manufacture's website.
You should plug it into a second computer to see if it works on an other computer.
