portable hard drive guide image
NO-FEAR
I just got a brand new laptop and my main concern is to carry my music around wijth me as I have a large collection of unique tracks and other sound compositions. I have it all stored on my virus ridden computer at home which still runs fairly smoothly; What is the simplest and easiest way I can transfer all the music from the computer onto my new laptop? I dont wish to buy one of those portable hard drives right now as I am low on money so any other options would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
Answer
Try the following iPod Transfer.

Install ubuntu but keep files from windows xp?
Dmoney
I havent installed ubuntu in a while but just downloaded the latest version for a computer build. My question is, is there an option in the install fields to keep documents, music and media from the windows xp partition or will i have to move everything to a portable hard drive, install and format the whole disk andthen move them back?
EDIT: The goal is to remove windows entirely, I dont want to have to select ubuntu each time i boot.
Answer
The best option would be to back up your data to an External Hard Drive and carry out a clean installation.
I thoroughly recommend Linux Mint 9 LTS which is built upon Ubuntu 10.04 LTS its easy to install and easy to use plus it comes with much of the software you are likely to need preinstalled

You download the ISO. image of Linux Mint 9 LTS then you need to create a Bootable LiveCD for installation

Linux Mint 9 LTS can also be run direct from the LiveCD from Boot without touching your Hard Drive
Once installed I recommend updating to Firefox 5 as Firefox 3.6 comes as default with Linux Mint 9 LTS
