I got a bag as a present that can carry all or most of my personal gadgets (WD 160GB hard drive, PDA, iPod nano, headphones, digital camera). The proble is that is has 4 magnets (2 on the body 2 in the flap) and I consider them to be relatively strong. Can this erase my HD//Flash Memory, MSDuo, SD card, or camera?
Answer
It will have a GREAT possibility of damaging your hard drive.
Your PDA shouldnt since it uses flash memory.
WILL not damage your iPod , as long as it is not the video iPods, those have hard drives and are/is possible to be damaged.
PSP will not be damaged, since it uses flash memory
Digital Camera will not, since it uses flash memory.
Headphones already contain magnets.

what is a portable hard drive and what is it for?
AllyKat
and, do you have to get one when you buy a laptop?
Answer
A portable hardrive is just what the name says it is: it's portable and it is a hardrive with data storage. An iPod, in essence, is a portable hardrive. You usually use PH's to back up your files should your computer crash. They used to be Firewire (which is really hard to find anymore), but now everything is usually with a USB connection which is faster. You connect the PH to your computer via the USB port and the computer will usually automatically recognize it as a storage device. Then you can drag-and-drop whatever files you want to put there. A portable hadrive cannot work as a standalone computer.
