A 500gb one will be perfect for them, I just need a good brand.

If you want to get one for Christmas, shop around. Prices on drives vary enormously at the moment. 80% of hard drives are made in Indonesia which was subject to widespread flooding which ruined many of the factories that make them - http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/07/business/global/07iht-floods07.html?pagewanted=all

Which laptop should I get?

I'm considering the ASUS G74SX-BBK7 from bestbuy for $1099 but I really think I should get an AMD, What would be a good AMD, that is equal or less in price but, needs to match the power of the G74SX-BBK7, the video card is important, I would consider 6GB of RAM, but I need the webcam and the processor need to be as powerful or more.
