portable hard drive 500mb image
I am looking for a good and portable external hard drive. I like something affordable and as stated can travel with me everywhere? I had a LACIE but it got destroyed. So something like palm side. Maybe a 500MB or something like that. A external which would last me a couple of years like my LACIE did.
What is the best one to get?
Answer
I think you mean 500GB and to be honest all of the hard drives on the market are good so get one that is the cheapest.
But as a fan of Western Digital I'd have a look for one of those but that is just personal preference.

How do you eliminate Hard Drive noise from mobile DJ setup?
Chris
Im using a laptop, m-audio usb pro, 2 150w powered speakers. The problem is the hard drive spinning is coming through the speakers. I know about using good cables, crossing wires properly and grounding. Does any one else have any handy tricks they have discovered? Thanks.

What do you mean by M-Audio USB Pro?
The M-Audio Fast Track Pro Mobile USB Audio/MIDI Interface? Or the M-Audio X-Session Pro USB MIDI DJ Mixer Controller?
If it's the mixer controller & you're using the soundcard that came with your laptop, you need to upgrade your soundcard.

Also you didn't mention what hard drive you are using, so I suspect you might be trying to use your laptop's internal hard drive. Live DJing with a laptop requires using a good portable hard drive.
Whenever you are dealing with an audio drive, be it recording or just playback, these three things are what should instantly pop into your head.
1. First and most importantly, USE FIREWIRE.
2. You want to make sure it has a spindle speed of at least 7200RPM with an 8MB or larger cache.
3. If you can, look for "Oxford 911" chipset.

Most computer based DJs have two portable hard drives & make an extra copy of their hard drive. That way if you have a problem with the hard drive you're using during a gig, you have a back up hard drive.
BTW
JFYI for future reference { Cars & Transportation > Car Audio } is not a very good category for asking questions about DJing.
In the future try using one of these categories for better responses to your DJing questions:
{ Consumer Electronics > Home Theater }
{ Consumer Electronics > Music & Music Players }
{ Consumer Electronics > General - Consumer Electronics }
{ Computers & Internet > Hardware }
