Will moving my files to an external hard drive make my computer faster?

LugiaMaste

I have about 1 gb left on my hard drive, and my computer is getting real slow, so im wondering, will moving my files to an external hard drive make it faster?

and if i do move my files to an external hard drive, will retrieving the files be a slow process? because if i do move my files then that hard drive will be full instead.

also, im not using a usb as an external hard drive..

Answer
Windows in general likes a fair bit of space on a hard drive for "Swap Files" Full hard drives slow the system down dramatically. Moving data to an external hard drive will help (Assuming here you cannot add an additional internal Hard drive)

So, move as much data as you can, pictures, music, documents to a hard drive AND delete any programs you do not use as well

As a rule I seldom let any hard drive get more than 1/2 full and I always have at least one back up drive

Why does my external hard drive make noise?

My external hard drive is making a noise, kind of like a CD is spinning a occasionally rubbing against something. My computer still recognizes the hard drive, but is this the first sign of the end? Is there something I can do to fix this problem or is it normal?

Answer
There's probably something coming apart or lose small
screws. If it is still under guaranteed, I suggest you to return
it.

Most companies offer a 1 year guarantee, I believe.
