I just bought a 3TB external drive and it works fine at home. But when I take it to campus..where I actually NEED it..it says I don't have permission to access it.

I am obviously not the administrator at my school's computer and I have tried every which way to configure the blasted sharing at home and on campus..HELP!!

Answer
Most likely your school has disabled external media permissions. You're out of luck.

Obviously you will get in trouble for this, but install a portable OS onto your drive, and boot from your external hard drive by selecting your device at the BIOS. That way, you have your own computer set up for school, you will be an administrator, as well as be able to do whatever you want locally (If they have internet filters that's a different story)

does a laptop and a cpu have the same type of hard drive/disk?

Justin

i have a an used cpu the thing that i know is that its hard drive has 100+ gb so i was you know wondering if i could take it out and put it in my laptop , cause its low disk space starting to get on my nerves. so is this possible?? sorry newbie here

Answer
First off, I don't recommend doing it yourself if you're asking this question. Secondly, no, they are not compatible. Laptop HDDs are smaller and have a slightly different build from PC HDDs. SSDs are the same, but if you want to change the HDD, you know you're going to lose all of your data unless you make a backup on a Portable HDD (Hard Disk Drive) which makes changing it kinda redundant since you now have another drive on which you can store data which is either equal, more or just a few GB less! Think about it. I have 5 Portable Hard Drives (1TB, 3TB, 2TB, 1TB, 320GB), all more than my Hard disk (1TB). if you really want to, check out eBay for laptop hard drives. You might have to check whether your laptops hard drive is IDE, SSD or SATA, depending on how old your laptop is.
