External drive organizing and backup software?

mrrparker

I just bought a 320G external hard drive and would like to know what is the best way to organize and backup data to it. What would be the best software to do this with.
Thanks

Answer
You need a software for syncronizing your original and backup files.

Then problem with backups like external drives is in case of fire, stolen, etc.

The very important files you need backup in a off site location.
For this I use the mozy. The link below give you 2.25 GB for free online (off site) backup:

External hard drive or backup software?

qaz

I've never had the use for a backup software before but now I desperately need one! Which would be the most secure way to save my files: backup software or an external hard drive? I need to make sure that all my files will be in a secure place forever and Ever Lol. And by that I mean that I will never have to worry about loosing any files or the software/ hard drive to fail/ not work any more. Also ifever, Feel free to recommend specific products to me, whether it be one Or the other. Full points to whoever gives the best answer!
Also, any thoughts about the novaBackup 11.1 professional?

Please and thanks!

Answer
Copy pasting is annoying because file management and versioning issues come up and drive you aywall. I would recommend proper backup solution like using Acronis True Image (paid) or Clonezilla (free), simply make a full image backup of your hard drive, or just your files.

After you make the inital backup, any subsequent backups you make will be much quicker as only the file changes are saved. When you're copy pasting your files are going to be everywhere, they're not going to be encrypted so anyone who finds you usb thumb drive can steal your data.

Also consider an online backup services like SugarSync, you get 5GB for free, you simply choose which folders you want to safeguard, and the software will upload your files onto the webserver and even synchronise your data with another computer (say between your laptop and your desktop). That's by far the easiest way to backup IMO.

The paid SugarSync account gives 35GB and unlimited devices to synchronise with.
