I have a WD portable hard drive, about 120 gigs, and always wanted to know if a virus can be transfered to it (and if it can, how it can be deleted).

Answer
Yes they can, common viruses install an autorun bug.
To remove, just dissable autorun and than format it :D

How do I copy my files to an external hard drive when I cant even turn on my computer?

My old computer has a virus on it and it restarts itself everytime I turn it on, theres no way for me to get to my desktop, safe mode doesnt even work. How can I copy my old files to a portable hard drive before I reinstall Vista? THanks

Answer
Desktop or laptop (or netbook) - http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0285941

Connect it to another computer 9that has a GOOD anti-virus program running) and copy the files. Don't be surprised if the anti-virus program doesn't let you though - your files could be infected. (What do you do then? Not much if you don't have a virus-free backup of your files.)
