I have a WD My Passport Essential Portable hard drive and I want to copy and paste my files onto it.
I am wondering where or how I am supposed to do this.

Answer
1 Plug your external hard drive to your computer.
2 Locate files you want to copy to the external drive.
3 Select and copy them (right mouse click -> copy).
4 Locate your external hard drive in My Computer.
5 Right mouse click -> paste.
6 When it's done Unplug your external drive.

How much space does a 1tb hard drive have after Windows format?

Billy

looking at getting the new 1tb western digital passport portable hard drive. Just wanted to know what i would really be getting. How much space in GB will i actually get, i am going to assume somthing like 870gb-930gb but does anyone have an exact number?

and no the operating system will not go on it, just files and programs and stuff

also this will be in ntfs format, unless when windows 7 comes out they have somthing better

Answer
see hard disk is secondary memory
so 1kb=1000bytes
1gb=1000*1000*1000 bytes

os measure capacity interms of primary memory
where 1 gb=1024*1024*1024 bytes

so exact space is
(your hard drive space which is 1000GB)/primary memory(1gb)
1000*1000*1000*1000/1024*1024*1024

=931.322GB

its same for all os
this is capacity of standard hard drive
but hard drive manufactures state they can't
exactly make 1 tb hard drive
so thats approx disk capacity they give
so according to that all 1Tb drives have near about 930 GB space
