it says my hard drive cannot work fast enough to keep up with my video quality or something and it says i might need a faster hard drive. i have an external hard drive that is indeed faster, but how do i actually work my final cut off that external hard drive?

it says that after i input that there might be dropped frames... can anyone help me out on this one?

Answer
The external drive will be slower then any internal drive unless you are using eSATA, or your main hard drive is still running on the IDE buss. USB 2.0 had a theoretical data transfer rate of 480Mb/s, SATA 1 1.5Gb/s SATA3 3Gb/s and SATA6 6 Gb/s

How do I use my external hard drive for storing and viewing movies ?

Q. I have an external hard drive I was planning to use for audio files. Now I want to to use for DVDs. I assume I can play the DVD on my desktop to save file to the external drive. What is the best process to download movie from web to get to the external hard drive to watch on TV. What software is required ? There seems to many sites and different process to transfer the video to storage. Wanting the best quality when complete.

Answer
If you are just downloading files from the web i would recommend saving them to your pc first, then transferring to your external drive, as network issues can sometimes affect the quality when saving across network, plus it may take longer to download if your not saving directly to a pc. Then have the drive shared across the network, so that you can access all the files from any pc in your house, so it becomes a NAS at his point. If your hard drive has an ethernet port, you could just connect it to your router and have it shared as a NAS that way too. You may want to install a uPnP server like Twonky on your hard drive which would make it even easier to use, as other uPnP devices can then pick up the content on your drive, like an xbox 360 for example, then you can stream directly to your tv from your nas running the upnp server.
