portable hard drive encrypt image
Q. I have an One Touch 4 mini portable hard drive.
I'd like to either put a password on it to protect the entire thing or, better yet, password protect only some of it.
I don't need it encrypted, just to have a password.

How wouold I do this?
Is it possible without a 3rd party program?

Answer
If you look at the documentation, it tells you how you can use DrivePass and MaxtorEncryption to both require a password for access to the drive (you cannot do folders only) and encrypt it's contents. Go the the link below and click "Product Tour" then click on Documents on the right. It has documentation for both Macs and PCs. It's listed under "Device Security."

You don't need a third party program unless password protecting only part of your drive is really what you want. Then you should use Truecrypt to encrypt a folder(s) only. That will also give you plausible deniability by having two passwords on the drive...

How to create paaword for portable hard disk drive?

Solid Snak

I have a portable hard disk drive with usb connection. The problem is how to setup a password that can only access by me? I check it everywhere but, all I found is lock for files, folders and thumb drive. Can anyone help me?

Answer
I use a program called "Private Disk Light". It will let you create a virtual encrypted partition on your drive. Do a Google search.
