I need to upgrade myPS3 pretty soon, and I'd like some suggestions on what sort of hard drive to use. What features should I be looking for. Please be specific in your answer. I'd like to have a reliable on that is going to hold a lot of storage space.

@Josh... Never answer this kind of question again until you go research instead of just randomly say because you think you know it, because you have no idea.

For internal HDD's you wanna go with either Toshiba or Seagate as the name brand. Toshiba because these are basically the default HDD's found in every PS3 ever made (as Toshiba helped create the PS3 with Sony, so their HDD's will definitely run the best in the PS3). Seagate on the other hand gives you 2 extra years of warranty compared to any other name brand. Other brands give you 3 years, Seagate will give you 5. I have a Seagate in my one PS3, and it runs pretty well the same as the Toshiba did, but for SOME games I noticed slightly slower loading times since it isn't the default brand the PS3 used. Make sure the HDD is a 2.5" Serial ATA 5400RPM 8MB Cache drive. So something like these:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Toshiba-MQ01ABD050-500GB-2-5-Laptop-Notebook-SATA-Hard-Drive-5400RPM-500-GB-/360586877480?pt=US_Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item53f4a71a28

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Seagate-Momentus-Thin-500-GB-Internal-5400-RPM-2-5-ST500LT012-SATA-Hard-Drive-/221209186549?pt=US_Internal_Hard_Disk_Drives&hash=item33811850f5

The 5400RPM is EXTREMELY important. Any higher can make the PS3 overheat. It was designed for 5400RPM. Those links are just examples of what you need to get, but get them brand new out of a box from Best Buy or a similar store.

As for external HDD's, any name brand will do as long as it's speed is 2.0 or higher (3.0 is usually compatible with 2.0, so don't worry there). I got a Seagate for this as well. You'd only need a 500GB in size, just make sure you get it formatted to FAT32 (Best Buy can do this for you) otherwise the PS3 won't be able to detect it. It only recognizes FAT32 format for external mass storage devices like externals and flash drives and such. You usually only get 1 year's worth of warranty with externals new. You already know the internal HDD's warranty(s) new. Something like this for external is fine:

Hope that helps.

which external hard drive would be better for me?

Hey!

So I'm going to be starting college soon and I will be an art & design major (aiming towards photography and digital stuff). I'm planning on buying a new computer and an external hard drive for school, and while I believe I have the computer picked out (macbook) I'm having trouble deciding on which external hard drive that I want.

I've found these two that seem pretty good:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/WD+-+My+Passport+1TB+External+USB+3.0/2.0+Portable+Hard+Drive+-+Black/4911796.p?id=1218575757942&skuId=4911796

and I'm not sure which one is better?

on the surface, I'd say the Toshiba one since it's another 1TB for an extra $20, but other than that they look pretty much the same to me...advice? :)

Thanks a ton, I'll pick a best answer!
