What is the best external hard drive for Mac's?

NiceShyGuy

I'm running out of hard drive space on my MacBook Pro and so I'm looking to get an external hard drive to store/backup some of my data. I already have a portable, external hard drive (HP, 320 GB) but now I'm looking for one to use at home which has a higher capacity and doesn't need to be as portable. However, it also needs to have firewire capabilities (faster transfer rate). I've read mixed reviews about different types of drives, so I was hoping for some more feedback from Mac users. Thanks!

Answer
LaCie makes a nice range of firewire external harddrives that are very Mac compatible (truly plug and play).

Apple sells them but you can get them cheaper elsewhere

But you do know that you must never ever use an external hd as your only storage don't you? Less safe than your internal hd as you can't rescue data from a busted external hard drive. Fine for backups or for throwaways like old torrents but not for precious stuff.

Help looking for an external hard drive?

I want to purchase a 100 to 250 gb external hard drive to mainly hold videos and movies.
I want to stay around the 50-60 dollar mark. And I have a MacBook.
I've found a few but the reviews are very mixed, so does anyone know of a good external hard drive that would work for me?
(it doesn't have to be specifically for Mac, but just will work on it)

Answer
I think you should go for Seagate 500gb External Hard Drive .Had got it in last mach and works very good the transfer speed is really good,It is silent and doesn't make a lot of noise . the looks are good and it easily fits in one's pocket, making it easily portable
