Larry

I was woundering i wanted the space. but i also need speed.

Answer
You are probably talking a custom choice like from Apple or HP that is in the process of ripping you off. I prefer the off-the-shelf better and cheaper systems.
If you look at the retail pricing:
http://pcpartpicker.com/parts/internal-hard-drive/#sort=a8&t=5400,7200&s=2000000,1000000,750000
Caviar Blue 3.5"7200RPM1TB64MB cache $65.98
Caviar Green 3.5" 5400RPM 1TB64MB cache $67.00
Caviar Blue 3.5"7200RPM750GB 64MB cache $69.98
The 1TB 7200rpm is the highest produced volume and can be bought the cheapest.
Different in laptops.
You can buy and install a 2nd hdd to a desktop later to get more space.
Start with 7200 rpm.
Or, you can buy or make with a $10 enclosure a portable USB 1TB HDD using a 2.5" internal drive.

Best Hard Drive?

I own an HP Pavilion laptop and I need more storage space. Can anyone recommend a good portable/external hard drive that doesn't cost an arm and a leg and has a huge storage capability? It will be used for storing pictures, music, and word documents. Thank you for your time and help.

Answer
Western digital all the way up to 1TB external and pretty cheap under 300$ CND
