Can i turn my old laptops hard drive into a portable hard drive for my new pc?

Nathan

if yes then how???? cheers

Answer
Buy an enclosure for a 2.5" form factor drive such as this one from Office Depot. You should be able to find one just about anywhere that you can buy a computer - $10-15

You will not need to format the drive. It will not be in your boot sequence, and you will be able to access any data that is currently on it.

I need to transfer files, music, photos from my pc media center? 32GB or 64GB I'm interested in something that automatically transfers the data, password protection, windows xp ready boost, data written to drive auto encrypted, usb 3.0 interface for speed. I would also like to know what the difference is between drag & drop vs data automatically transferred? Also how long can data stay on a flash drive vs portable external hard drive? I'm getting conflicting info from: office depot, office max need to know asap.

Answer
SDHC 32GB Toshiba Flash drive is very good and I use it.
Data can stay on a flash drive and portable hard drives for as long as you want.
