I can't seem to reformat my portable external hard drive (Western Digital My Passport 60GB)?

Something is wrong with it, I cannot even access it and it prompts me that it must be formatted. I am using the built-in Windows utility, and when I try and Quick Format - I get an error. And when I use the regular format, it never progresses and I must cancel out. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Most likely the hard drive is damaged.

Try in a different computer, if it doesnt work, then your hard drive is gone bad =(

i dropped it and it had been through day to day life for 6 months i plug it in it doesn't work. i think its broken btw its old 60gb hard drive my laptop came with put in a hard drive case. im going to try a different case and if that doesnt work i think it is broken.
Last time it was used i was writing my save games to it from my ps3

Sometimes things break. Dropped drives usually don't survive and recovering data from them is expensive.

You could put another drive in the case if you have one.
