I have a passport WD portable harddrive and when i plug it into my eSATA 3.0 port on my desktop it disconnects every few minutes, and its kinda annoying when transferring files. I tried plugging it into a 3.0 port on my laptop and i dont suffrer the same problem. I changed the auto hard disk turn off from 20 mins to never, but its still the same it dissapears/disconnects every few mins. Please help. do i need to disable USB selective suspend setting? or what do i need to do? thanks

This is a driver issue. I had this problem with a new WD MyBook 2TB USB3 eSATA. It worked fine on my laptop but not on my desktop. couldn't get the eSATA connection going at all but I solved it by downloading the latest USB3 drivers from my motherboard manufacturers support site and using the USB3 interface. I suggest you try connecting by USB3 and Make sure you download the correct drivers for your exact make and model.
If eSATA is your only option [although you don't give the model, most WD external drives have USB3 option to] then download the latest SATA drivers from the motherboard vendors support site too.
Also make sure you have the microsoft .net framework runtime files that WD stipulate for drives running their smartware backup software [if your model has smartware on it]
