Answer
Great Question!

1,000MB=1GB

Officially, there are 1000 megabytes (MB) in a gigabyte (GB). So 500MB would equal 0.5 GB.

This definition is used in hard drives, portable memory drives (memory cards, USB drives), DVDs, Blu-ray disks, and most measures of performance. Some software (such as Mac OS X and the Linux kernel) uses this definition when displaying file and disk sizes.

MB stands for megabyte. Mb with lowercase b is ambiguous, as it has been used for both "megabyte" and "megabit". Writing megabytes as MB and megabits as Mbit avoids any confusion.

Memory manufacturer definition
Another definition is used by memory manufacturers and some software, like Microsoft Windows. They use 1024 megabytes per gigabyte, but this is more properly called a gigabinary byte (GiB), sometimes contracted to gibibyte.

Using the non-standard definition:

* 1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes
* 1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes or 8192 megabits

Examples:

* 1,000 megabyte (MB) = 1 gigabyte (GB)
* 1,024 mebibyte (MiB) = 1 gibibyte (GiB)
* 1 megabyte = 8 megabits
* mega- = 1,000,000
* giga- = 1,000,000,000
* mebi- = 1,024 Ã 1,024 = 1,048,576
* gibi- = 1,024 Ã 1,024 Ã 1,024 = 1,073,741,824

my ipod; switching computers, what about my music?

mike j

My original computer is in my living room, in which i use my itunes library and sync all my music from there onto my ipod. All of my music is on that computer as well.
Yesterday, i got a new computer to put in my room, so now i'm going to use this one.

my question is; is there a way i can transfer my itunes library from my living room computer, on my new computer in my room.

please help, and much appreciation.
Thanks alot,

Shawn

Answer
The best thing to do is to transfer your entire iTunes Library from one computer to the other. This would be really easy with a large-capacity portable drive, you just need to copy the iTunes folder (found in your My Music folder) from the old computer to the hard drive, and put it in the same place on your new computer. If you had a home network and shared the My Music folder on your old computer on the network, you could also transfer it that way, but if you did it wirelessly that would take ages, so you'd really have to do it over Wired LAN.

If you can't do any of the above, then get as big a pen drive as possible (you can get them for less than £10 from Amazon) and follow these instructions:
1) Download and install WinRAR from this link:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
2) Open WinRar and click the Wizard button from the toolbar at the top.
3) Select "Create a new archive" and press Next.
4) Find your iTunes folder and click OK.
5) Give the archive a name (or just leave it at iTunes) and press Next.
6) In the box on the next screen, type in the size in bytes of your pen drive. If it was 500MB, you'd type 500000000, if it was 1GB you'd type 1000000000, and if it was 10GB you'd type 10000000000 etc. etc. Then press Finish and wait for the program to do it's thing. Actually, you'd probably want to make the number of bytes slightly smaller than the size of the drive, just in case.
7) One at a time, transfer each archive part from the Music folder onto your pen drive, then onto the Music folder on your new computer, deleting the archive part from the pen drive each time.
8) Install WinRAR on the new computer, and unpack the archives to the right place. If it prompts you to overwrite files, don't worry, just click Yes to All.
9) If you haven't already, install iTunes on your new computer.
10) Open iTunes. When it finishes loading, your old Library will be there in its full glory, exactly as it looks on your old computer, and your iPod will be able to sync from your new computer without a problem.

Hope that helps!
