I have a Western Digital Passport portable HD, 250 GB. When I plug it into my computer, it installs the plug and play drivers nicely, and I can SEE the WD icon in my device manager. However, I can't see the drive in windows explorer, and it really doesn't sound like my drive is spinning up. Any help?

Answer
Hi ! Right click on my computer icon and select manage .... There, select Disk management ... There you will find your hard drive ... If its new, you can simply format it and it will get detected now on ... Else you can try changing drive letter to assign it one ...

Portable Hard Drive Formatting?

I recently bought a WD portable hard drive that was pre-formatted for Mac. I am running Windows 7 and the drivers show up, however the hard drive itself does not show up anywhere. Is there a third party program i can use to format it to NTFS even if the drive doesn't have a label (ie: C:\, H:\, etc.)?

Answer
To go into HD management:

Right click My Computer
Choose Manage (click Yes when UAC prompts you for permission)
On the left hand panel, under the Storage sub category, select Disk Management.

From there on you can Delete and create partitions/volumes.
