Anyone know where I can get a cheap but good portable hard drive for use on my laptop. Only need at moment for backup of music files to stop me having to download music maybe later. No I know nothing about them so good advice please and thanks

I just bought a 1 TB Western Digital external hard drive at Walmart today for $80. The size is small...small enough I could stick it in my shirt pocket. They also had a 1 TB Toshiba external hard drive for $70, but it couldn't handle Vista. It was similar sized to the WD. I use an external hard drive for my system backup bundled with Acronis True Image. I had problems last week and wound up doing a backup installation of the "C" Main drive and "D" Recovery drive. With this type of system ( external hard drive & Acronis ), the entire process took about 90 minutes. My problem was solved and the system is running as it should be. My old external hard drive had a capacity of 120GB and my system was 111 GB, so I figured it was time to increase my capacity on the backup external hard drive.

any advice for portable hard drives?

I want to save my important documents , and pictures somewhere outside of my pc. I want to keep copies of them. If in case, my pc breaks down or anything, I would be able to transfer those copies from old pc to new pc. Should I use USB? or hard drive? I have never used those before. I want medium storage room for hard drives. Which kind is suitable for my pc?

For just documents you should use a USB. You can get them pretty cheap .. at the Walmart around my house I found a 4GB one for $11
