Why cant my 140$ Hp Simplesave 1TB portable hardrive run readyboost?

iamscott10

I bought this so that i could run 16gb readyboost ram. I updated my os to windows 7 and it wouldnt run with readyboost. Can anyone tell me why my state of the art portable hardrive wont run with readyboost but my old ass usb 4gb port thing is able to run it.

Answer
Windows does not allow hard drives to run readyboost because they do not have as fast of read/write speed of a flash drive. It is also recomended to use a dedicated USB flash drive for readyboost because other data stored on it can slow down how readyboost works. So no matter how nice and big of a hard drive you get, it just won't work.

Which external hard drive should I get?

I want to get external storage to save all my downloaded movies and tv shows. At first I was thinking of just getting a USB hard drive but they're really expensive! I started to look into external hard drives and a lot of them are around $70 for 1TB. Which would you recommend? My laptop has USB 2.0 ports. Some of the external hard drives say they're backward compatible with USB 2.0, so if I were to get an external hard drive that uses USB 3.0, but is backwards compatible, it would be able to work on my laptops USB 2.0 ports?

Here are some of the external hard drives I like. Feel free to suggest other ones that you think are better, with a link to it preferably! Also I would prefer it to be compatible with Mac and PC because I have a PC right now but I will upgrade to a Mac in the near future. Thanks in advance!

Answer
You could go with the HP 1 TB HDD.
Since it has backwards capabilities that would work with your PC and your Mac in the future.

In a lot of the computer forums a lot of folks go with the 1 or 2 TB drives.
Mostly Western Digital and HP seems to be the top merchandise purchased.

A few people have complained that they have had problems with the Sea Gate brand so you might
want to stay away from that brand.

The Solid State Drives are nice but they are expensive.

You also have the option of purchasing a internal HDD and installing it.
It would be fairly easy to install. The (SATA) cable that comes from the power supply plugs into the
back of the HDD. The other cable (smaller plug) plugs into the motherboard.

You will have to format and or partition your new device to put movies and etc. on it-
