Between the two, I would get the Samsung R720 because it has a superior processor and larger hard drive.

Honestly though, those are two lousy laptop choices. I could give you a recommendation if you stated your budget and what you need the laptop for. For example, you can find better ones with smaller screens (trust me, 17" for a laptop makes for one non-portable computer).

So if I were you, I would browse Amazon.com for a computer with:

At least a 4-star rating and more than 10 reviews.
An intel core2 duo processor.
Dedicated graphics, preferably at least as good as GeForce9400M if you want graphics to look nice
4 GB RAM if you want one with Vista
At least 1280x800 screen resolution for a 13", larger for larger screens
Long batter life

I would recommend a MacBook for various reasons (total cost of ownership, quality of hardware, the operating system) but since it is so different from your listings maybe it wouldn't meet some of your specific needs.

So look around, find a nice 15" laptop (those are plenty big) with highish resolution and the specs I listed above, and make sure you can get a free Windows 7 upgrade (or just wait until laptops start coming out with Windows 7).

Can you help me pick a laptop please?

(warning)
It really depends on what you want in your computer, the biggest mistake someone could make in buying something is the way it looks.

(warning2)
*Laptops in my definition are only worthwhile if you're a student or a businessman/woman.* Or at someone who depends on a portable computer, not someone who wants the convenience. If you aren't under this category, I suggest to save your money and buy a regular computer.

(Type you might need)
You need to have enough ram and hard drive space to do whatever you want. Specialized functions require different hardware, ex. 16:1 media-card reader for someone who might use various cameras and memory cards.

(Gamer)
If you like playing the latest computer games, you should get a laptop with at least 4gb ram, 320gb hard drive and 1gb video-card.

(Student)
If you're a student, at least 2gb ram to run microsoft(reserved) home and student. If you need the basic and your a student; get a notebook.

(Businessman/woman)
If you work at the office: 4gb and 500gb. *Note*-specific tasks might need good-quality sound-cards, video-cards, built-in security (fingerprint scanner), etc...

(Operating Systems)
It really doesn't matter what you get: unless you've never heard of the computer brand before. Although that new O.S. is coming out soon from Microsoft, so I'd suggest looking around for free future upgrades attached to the laptops.

(Processors)
To sum up, processors are important, I haven't really noticed a difference in the brands of processors. Intel(r) and AMD(r) seem to be doing the job right, so you can't go wrong with either one of them. In conclusion, the stats I gave should be able to get you the right processor. I really hoped that helped you out.

*Note, careful with the "freebiejeebies" website mentioned, it sounds suspicious to me. They could be giving away zombie-computers or viruses.* Otherwise, Macbooks are considered state of the art laptops: for a very hefty price.(Their hard drives are solid-state which makes them almost silent, and it also makes the computer faster by being closer to the ram response.) If you ask me though, it's way ahead of it's time and not worth the price.
