Is there an external hard drive for xbox 360?

You can connect a portable hard drive with a USB cable into your Xbox. I don't think you can save games or anything related to Xbox onto the HD, but you can use it for music, pictures and videos. The standard computer hard drive doesn't have the correct format to hold Xbox content. You have to format your hard drive to FAT32 before using it though. You can do that by downloading partition magic off the Internet and creating 4GB FAT32 partitions. You can make partitions without downloaded software depending on your hard drive storage capacity. Look at the source for more details.

I need help with formatting a hard drive for Xbox 360?

I just got a new xbox 4gb. I've got a 'Western Digital Element's 1TB External hard drive that I already had and I tried plugging it to the xbox to see if I could play my music, pics etc.. but it won't show up as a portable device. I've also tried to play original xbox games and it tells me I need an external hard drive..I noticed there's a option on the xbox to format your hard drive and that It deletes everything.. I wondering if it's worth copying all my stuff from my hard drive to my pc and formatting the hard drive via the xbox? and would I be able to put the stuff back on my external from the pc after? I've read a lot of articles on the internet about the hard needs to be FAT32 and something about you can't have FAT32 over 32gb? Everything I've read has confused me a bit more! I was wondering.. would the xbox format it to fat32 and decrese the size of my hard drive in general? Or would it be better to format it on the pc? Does it create a fat32 partition and the rest of the space left is normal or would it turn my external in to a 32gb external?
If you can understand all my rambling there I would really really appreciate help!

I was going to experiment with with a small flash drive I have that I don't mind ruining but I tried plugging it in to the xbox and the casing on it is too big and won't fit, what a pain!

Thanks

Answer
An external PC HDD will not let you play backwards compatible original Xbox games. You need an actual 360 hard drive to do that. Partitioning it to FAT would reduce the size for the part you're trying to use. It's best to just use a flash drive instead. They're already FAT.
