I have a 3TB Seagate GoFlex USB 3.0 external hard drive. When I connect it to any computer, the drive spins (there is no clicking or other noticible physical damage), but the lights on the front don't turn on, nor does the computer detect it. I've tried going into disk management, and I've tried checking on Linux Mint. I still get the same result. I only have access to a laptop, so I can't try connecting this 3.5" drive to a SATA port. I've checked all of the connections including where the drive connects to its SATA to USB adapter. Any help on this matter would be super. Thanks in advance.

I've always heard that the front usb ports don't have enough power to run a hard drive. maybe it does, but do you have the current usb drivers for it, are the connections tight, are the cables good? Are you sure the adapter isn't flawed? Find someone else that has a pc that will handle the connection and try it on that pc. does your bios support it? is the drive partitioned and formatted?

whats the difference between a WD 'My Book' and an external hard drive?

Timmy

hello!

im looking to buy an external hard drive and i found a 3TB My book.
what is the difference between a Western Digital 'My Book',
and an Iomega External Hard Drive?
i currently have an iomega 1tb hard drive and its full, im looking to buy another.

Thanks.

Answer
Nothing, they are both external hard drives, My Book is only the name Western Digital gives their hard drives, and it comes with some management software for the drive.

However, they both can be used the same way.
