Best Mac for video editing?

Sean

I already have a MacBook (the 2008 model), and I think it's time for an upgrade.

I have a 550d, and my MacBook is really slow when it comes to editing video in iMovie and Final Cut Express.

What would be the best option? MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iMac or a Mac Mini?

Answer
All new macs will run both iMovie and FCE however if you want a serious video editing computer, choose one of the following:

1. Portable - Macbook pro 15" high spec, core 17 chip, the one with the AMD Radeon HD 6750 and 1GB GDDR5, but make sure you also specify the 7200rpm hard drive (not 5400).

2. Desktop - iMac, either the high end 21" with the core 17 chip or,
the ultimate machine would be the 27" iMac with the core i7 chip and the 2GB of graphics memory.

Any suggestions for a portable hard drive for transferring large file to and from school?

I need a nice, small and reliable hard drive that i can use to transfer video files from my high school film class to home so I can edit them. I don't know how many gbs I need either. I'd like it to be light and to fit in the average backpack. I have USB 2.0 and firewire, Any suggestions?
One movie file is about 40 GB, but I'd also be storing the raw footage

Answer
wait for a usb flash drive to come on sale. try to get an 8GB. you might be able to save some money instead of getting an external hard drive
