dino25200@

okay, so i got this hard drive a while ago, and it's not working, i believe this is a logical error, because it can be found with a program, i just cant access the files at all. is there any program that fixes this?
forgot to make clear that my hard drive just randomly stopped working
it worked fine before it stopped working

make sure that your computer's up to date with all service packs installed... also, some computers don't allow Plug N Play, you might have to install drivers for that device on your computer... go to the manufacturer web site and DL the drivers that they should have available

that should work

oh, sh!t... ummm I still would make sure I DL'ed the drivers to make sure that it's recognized on the computer, then if I couldn't find my media on it... if it is something that you can put back on there then I would search for the expandable memory when you plug it in and re-format the drive... format it to FAT32 and then back to (it should be arlready) NTFS

some people actually use their external drives and USB sticks to make their computer run faster b/c they use that as extra cache memory, so if you have ever clicked that "make my computer faster" or whatever it says, then your computer might just recognize it as that...

like I said, DL the drivers and follow all of that... if you have any other questions then feel free to e-mail me

How do I fix my portable Passport Hard drive?

Melissa El

I have a WD Portable USB hard drive called a Passport.
It has like 200 gigs and has a tiny blue circle light on the side. (If that helps identify it)
Anyway it has my LIFE on it... and it's not working anymore!

One day I put it in the computer usb area... and the power went out for a few seconds. As it so often does in this stupid city.
It happened just as the hard drive was trying to do it's setup thing? I don't know what that's called, where it shows the file transfer for a few moments before I can open it.

Anyway, well now it doesn't work. Hurray.... -_-

How do I fix this please?
Thanks much for any help. :)
Oh, also, when I try to plug it in now. The blue light shows up but it doesn't do anything else.
No file transfer or anything.
My computer doesn't even know it's there.
I don't even hear the bloop sound it usually does with my other small thumb drive.
Also it doesn't work on any other pc... if that helps.

This is just a start for you, but there is relevant data there see>(I did a Start Run of > diskmgmt.msc) at PETER23. But the forum is indeed directly related to passport drives. You will most likely need professional service to extract data from the drive although I hope not. (I deal with this stuff every-day all-day) I am a big fan of WD HDD's but when they go.. In future use "two" externals whereas one for everyday use and the second for your once every 14 day (or whatever time-frame suits your needs) back-up. GOOD LUCK!
