how to reformat portable hard drives?

JONNO

i have a portable hard drive i need to reformat it. i cant see it in my computer. how do i reformat it?

Answer
Try this:
Right click on My Computer --> Manage
On the left, expand "Storage"
Click "Disk management"
Find the drive in the list on the right toward the bottom (it should say "removable disk").
Right click on the drive --> Format.
Choose the file system (probably best to use FAT32 for a portable device unless you will ONLY use it with your computer, in which case, choose NTFS).

I hope this helps.

Using iPod as portable hard drive?

CJ

So i bought a new iPod recently. I like the songs on my friends iTunes and I have no music on my iTunes. I hear that you can make your iPod as a portable hard drive to transfer music onto your iPod and to another computer, is this true? Has anyone ever done this? Did it work?
What if one computer is mac and one is pc. All the songs were bought off iTunes or from CD's.. so would it still work?

Answer
Manually manage your music and you can use any computer and any itunes you want with your ipod.

Either click the box on the main summary page of your ipod in itunes that says manually manage music or plug it into your friends computer and when it asks (warns) you about syncing, dont sync.

This will put the ipod in manual mode and then you just drag and drop songs from ANY itunes library to your ipods name. Right click and delete what you dont want from the main music list under the ipods name

Dont resync though or anything you dont have in your itunes library you are syncing to will be deleted from the ipod.

Just keep it manually managed if you plan to use it on multiple computers.

I have always kept my ipod manual and use it on several computers.
