Hey I have a Western digital portable 500GB hard drive and I'd like to have it encrypted, but I want it so that when its plugged in a box comes up asking for a password and the drive can only be accessed by inputting the password, but I also want it to work on any computer I plug the drive into, so its no good having the software installed on the local machine? Is there any software that does this? or is this too much? Please don't suggest truecrypt or folder lock for this. Thanks!
@dodderish

I understand this, but I mean I'm happy to have the software on the HDD I just wan't to have it portable and to allow use on any computer.

Folder lock does a good job of this but has a faulty dll that causes blue screens, So i'd like an alternative to that
@ericjames Unfortuantly it doesn't come on many of their drives only a select few which would be the passport range. I have an elements one, so mine doesn't come with the software, sounds good though

Answer
Many Western Digital hard drives come preloaded with auto-run software. Have you tried setting up WD Sync and using WD Sync synchronization-and-encryption software?
