What are some good reliable external hard drive that has terabyte of storage? ?

Q. I need a good reliable external storage device with 1 terabyte capacity.

Can you give me some that are relatively in-expensive, but not junk?

It's for backing up multiple computers that I have.

Answer
I don't think you are going to find one under $150. Do try Ebay look for Western Digital My Book External Drives. I know that is a reliable brand. Beware of inflated shipping on ebay. Circuit City has them for $169 with free shipping.

That is a good deal considering that the 500GB one is $139 . So you get 2 times as much space for only $30 more.

Here is one for $125 I don't know about shipping cost or the reliability of that brand.

You just have to take good care of them. Most don't have fans in them, so it is a good idea to only turn them on while transfering data. Also, be very careful transporting them. The Western Digital may have a fan, I'm not sure. It does automaticly go into sleep mode after not being used for 10 minutes. That is a good feature.

Also, if it is for a laptop, sometimes any brand will be time consuming to get working right. Be sure it is compatable with your software and connections, too. I got a 320 GB external drive with a 2.0 USB hook up . It says ROCK on the outside, so I guess that is the brand. It works fine with my desktop with Windows XP, but I'm having a hard time getting it to work right with my laptop with Windows ME(I hate Millineum Edition). I read that a lot of people have trouble with external drives and laptops with any software, because it is hard to assign the drive a letter. My desktop automaticly asigned it as Drive E: without any trouble, but my laptop is still not letting me assign a drive letter.

Check out this website for best pricing. I think they have reviews on the different kinds, too. http://www.nextag.com/serv/main/buyer/OutPDir.jsp?search=1tb+hard+drive&psort=1&phi=200&node=300119&_aHard_Drive_Drive_Type=External

what is the cheapest website to buy a terabyte external hard-drive?

Aus Farm

I want it to be plug and play, dont want to plug it in to the mains. Passport size too. Also, if it can be used on a wireless network it would be great. I'm broke at the moment so looking for something under 100 australian dollars. I know i'm asking alot but here goes.

Answer
You can do web search for low price and there is web sites will do the work for you.

So of best drive prices I have found on eBay. Try Newegg, Amazon.com, and Tiger Direct for prices.

I have pickup 1T for less than $90 including shipping.

My numbers are in US dollars. Other cheap way is to use adapter which plugs into the drive and USB on the computer. Plug in power supply for the drive. Total cost for adapter is $20 or less then you can use this adapter to add external DVD drive.
