Which one do you think is good brand for external hard drive.

Answer
Western Digital and Seagate have been making hard drives for a really long time. I've had 2 Western Digitals and never had any problems with them. I suspect Seagate is as good.

I got a 500gb Western Digital on black Friday for $30. Very cool.

Which USB cable does Lacie Hard Disk external hard drive use?

Drunkobra

I have a Lacie Hard Disk design by Neil Poulton external hard drive. I need a USB 2.0 cable to use it, but I can't figure out which. The regular size USB is too thick and doesn't fit in the drive. I've looked for a while but I can't find any USB cable that has one side the standard USB size to go into the computer and the other side a bit thinner to go into the hard drive. Is this what I even need? Help!? I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thank you.

Answer
The drive came with a USB cable, can you find the original?
There is more than one Poulton designed drive. The desktop models (the ones with a power adapter to plug into the mains) use a standard square-ish USB "B" connector, just like a printer. The Computer has the A connector, flatter, wider rectangle. The standard A to B cable will work. http://img.systemaxdev.com/productmedia/htmlimages/cten/Lacie/142241-back.jpg

If you have a portable LaCie drive, then it could have a USB Mini-B or Micro-B connector.
