How could I make my ps3 detect my portable hard drive?

rosas_jess

I have an 80gb seagate portable hard drive and works with usb 2.0, but my ps3 80gb wont detect it..it will only detect my small ipod and my psp..any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
You may have to press triangle more then once depending on the hard drives file structure

Simply take a jump drive, external hard drive, etcâ¦hook it up to the USB port on the front and then you--

Goto to view under music, or video, or photos, scroll down to the drive you've hooked up hover over it then push Triangle(notX) then select display all (view all)(press X) and it will show everything on the jump drive or external harddrive. Then either listen to or view the music, video, photos or copy to the ps3 hard drive directly.

If you have a psp you can also use that to move files from pc to ps3.

Hitachi 500 GB Portable Hard Drive Connect to PS3?

K

I've been looking for ways I can connect this hard drive to my PS3. As I've come to discover, it seems the PS3 only recognizes FAT32 (which supposedly has a limit of 32GB). What I was considering (hearing this is possible) is creating a partition in my Hitachi Portable Hard Drive that would be FAT32, but I am not 100% sure how to go about this. I fear the possibility of ending up with a 32GB Hitachi Storage (all the way down from 500GB!) if I make an error. Does anyone know how I can create the partition while keeping the rest of the space on my drive as well? (ex. Have one part 32GB FAT32 format, and the other part 468GB exFAT format)

Thank You and I hope to hear your responses.

Answer
Windows has a peculiar limitation in that it cannot create a FAT32 partition larger than 32GB. However, 3rd party software can.

CompuApps Swissknife can format your hard drive and make any sized partitions you want. The premium edition adds support for Windows 7 and is inexpensive. The free edition only supports up to Win XP.

Easeus Partiton Magic works for everything up to Windows 7. Unfortunately, it is 32-bit only.

I used Swissknife to format my 640GB WD Elements external HDD into a 460GB NTFS partition and a 150GB FAT32 partition for use in the PS3 and PC, and my Maxtor 250GB Onetouch as a single FAT32 partition for PS3 compatibility and portability.

The software will not delete your existing data unless you tell it to delete the existing partition. You can shrink existing partitions, or make them larger. If you make a mistake, you can always try again. Partitions can easily be erased and created. It is very hard to make a mistake, since the software is fairly intuitive.
